Robert Charest, Associate Professor of environmental studies at Elon University, is the man who first thought of the idea MOBii. The interview below talks about the studio MOBii was created and his philosophies. This video was created by Jack and his fellow journalism colleagues in the Fall of 2015.
Originally from Montreal, Charest made his way to Elon after teaching at The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and The University of North Carolina Greensboro. It was while at UNC-Greensboro that Charest founded and directed the Urban Studio, which is a community- oriented design-build studio. Before teaching, Charest practiced architecture, as well as interior and product design, in Canada, the U.S. and Israel.
The birth of MOBii
April 2, 2015 "Groundbreaking"
With the leadership of professional architect and Professor Charest our class began the process of designing the micro home. Finally getting to see the actual size of the trailer in person put me at a loss for words. The size of the 5 x 8 trailer made me think of the implications and demand for diligence needed to complete this project.
